Even if you don’t believe in fate and karma, you can’t deny that the universe sometimes has an odd way of giving people exactly what they deserve. Try asking for help after you’ve denied it to someone else in the past. Oh, how the tables have turned!
Redditor u/Evening-Still2174 shared the ups and downs her family went through over the past few years. She explained to the AITA community how she, her husband, and her three kids became homeless in 2020. The woman’s mother-in-law refused to lend them a helping hand despite her earlier promises—something that really came to haunt her later on. Scroll down for the full story.

Storytelling, journalism, and art are a core part of who I am. I've been writing and drawing ever since I could walk—there is nothing else I'd rather do. My formal education, however, is focused on politics, philosophy, and economics because I've always been curious about the gap between the ideal and the real.
At work, I'm a Senior Writer and I cover a broad range of topics that I'm passionate about: from psychology and changes in work culture to healthy living, relationships, and design.
In my spare time, I'm an avid hiker and reader, enjoy writing short stories, and love to doodle.
I thrive when I'm outdoors, going on small adventures in nature...

How is it that someone with equal responsibility (SIL) has the gall to be angry that anybody else shirked it when she didn't bother taking it on, either?

I got suspicious when they said she had two extra rooms. Who has two extra rooms? And then the family built a house they now live in? Sounds like a fairy tale

They built their own house? I don't know, man. I know this happens, one of my friends did it, but he's a licensed contractor/builder, so out of the gate he knew what he was doing. That's a huge undertaking for someone with no experience and really risky and costly if you botch it. Props to them if they actually pulled that off.Anyway, the judgemental SIL who had her house handed to her, should have taken mom in.

We don't know if they did or didn't have experience. The cost of building materials blew up and everyone with building projects stalled, or many did. Maybe husband is a contractor by trade and was laid off when everything stopped in that arena.
