Are you ready for some football!?
And no, I don’t mean the NFL. In this house, we’re all about College Football! College football season starts this weekend and I’ve got a few excited guys here, ready to hunker down and spend the day cheering on their favorite college football teams. (Go K-State!)
While my boys were immersed in football, I thought I’d play a dirty but delicious trick on them. I told them we’d be eating burgers at half time and to be ready because they were so good! Instead of bringing down the burgers they were used to, I switched things up and made Black Bean Veggie Burgers using Bush’s Black Beans.
As I sat the plates down in front of the guys, I got a quizzical look from my husband…”So these are just burgers with black beans and some vegetables in them?” Me, “Huh? Oh my… look at that quarterback go!!” A diversion was successfully created and I snuck out of the room. Upon returning, I found every last crumb of veggie burgers gone and happy and full boys continuing to be glued to the game.
This recipe I adapted from the Whole Foods website is the best Veggie Burger recipe I’ve tried. It’s filling, flavorful and so much healthier than traditional burgers. TheSriracha turns up the heat a bit and gives it a great kick of flavor. If you love Bush’s Black Beans like we do and love a great burger, then you will be a fan of this recipe! Enjoy!

- 1 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
- 1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning

we LOVE black bean burgers in our house. They’re actually on the menu for the week, but I may have to use a bit of your recipe as well! Good job trickin’ the guys!
Black bean burgers make me soooo happy! Love the look of this!
I pretty much only eat black burgers at home. My husband prefers the meat, so I prep and freeze regular burgers for him and black bean for me!

Made these on a whim for my non-meat eating son’s fiancé – she and I (also a non-meat eater) thought they were scrumptious. She kept asking me “you made these?” It won’t be the last time I make them, I’m sure!

That is awesome. Joni!! I’m so glad 🙂

I found this recipe about 30 minutes ago, as I was craving something healthier for supper, so I made them about 15 minutes ago and already gobbled one down lol..delicious!! I added cumin, hickory smoke and worcestershire sauce as I would for beef burgers..soo satisfying and yummy! and easy ! thank you for sharing..already pinned under tried and true!

We are grain free and so I substituted the breadcrumbs for an equal mix of almond flour and ground flaxseed. THe burgers held together well and had great flavor. I will be adding this recipe to my repeat collection!

I’m so glad – thanks for letting me know your adaptations as well!

What can I use instead of an egg?
