Just in case you need a reminder, the Honeyduke’s Chocolate Frogs are a popular confection showcased in the film series. These treats are not your ordinary chocolates: Chocolate Frogs are enchanted to behave like real frogs. They are able to hop around and move. In the first Harry Potter movie, Harry is introduced to these delightful and slightly peculiar sweets during his first journey on the Hogwarts Express.

How to Make Harry Potter Chocolate Frogs Step by Step!

Chocolate Frog Recipe (Harry Potter) - A Country Girl's Life (9)

STEP ONE – Melt the Chocolate

We’re using Chocolate Bark for the chocolate frogs. I like to use chocolate bark for melting chocolate over melting chips or discs but you could use those too. First, break a few pieces of the bark and put them in a microwave safe glass bowl. Place in the microwave for 30 second intervals- stirring in between each cycle to avoid burning. The chocolate should be lump free and flow off the spoon easily (see next photo).

Pro Tip: If you want a shiny coating to your chocolate frogs like mine then add a small tsp of vegetable oil or coconut oil after the melting process. This can help thin the chocolate out as well.

STEP TWO – Coat the Mold

Now that the chocolate is melted, take a Silicone Pastry Brush and brush the chocolate to coat the inside of the Chocolate Frog Candy Mold mold. Throw the mold into the freezer for about 2 minutes so the chocolate will fully set. Make sure you leave a pocket area for the secret center surprise which we’ll discuss in the next step!

You *can* spoon in a thin layer of chocolate straight into the mold if you don’t have a pastry brush of some sort but I think brushing the first layer helps the chocolate reach all the cracks and crevasses of the frog mold.

STEP THREE – Add The Secret Frog Center

Next will create the surprise crunchy center! This is really fun because it takes people by surprise that there is some sort of crunchy center. Kids go crazy for it! When your chocolate has set pour Colorful Sprinkles or Jimmies into the mold. I used sprinkles but you can add peanut butter, caramel bits, rice krispie cereal or marshmallows.

STEP FOUR – Add the Remaining Melted Chocolate

If your chocolate has set in your bowl you can re-melt it in the microwave again using the same instructions we gave you earlier. Pour the melted chocolate into the frog cavity, all the way to the top. Lightly tap the mold up and down on the counter to help air bubbles rise to the surface. You can also pop any air bubbles with a toothpick for a nice smooth finish.

STEP FIVE – Release the Chocolate Frogs From the Mold

Allow the frogs to completely cool at room temperature (do not put in the refrigerator or freezer as they can crack). Remove frogs from the mold by gently bending the Chocolate Frog Candy Mold under each individual frog and lightly pushing up under their backs to release them. Once they are removed from the mold you can gently remove any excess chocolate with a sharp knife.
