Beef N' Cheddar!!!
Who doesn't love to bite into a mouth watering, cheesy and warm Beef and Cheddar sandwich. Letting the Cheese slowly ooze in between the layers of seasoned roast beef with each bite,, and feeling the tingle of the slightly spicy sweet and savory Arby's sauce elegantly coating the bottom bun. This is one of my all time favourite sandwiches and I have mastered making it at home as close to the original as possible.
*** Warning, if you share this sandwich with your significant other you'll have to make them one so buy extra buns and meat. Or buy extra buns and meat so you can make yourself another sandwich after you finish the first one***
- Prep Time - 10 mins
- Cook Time 10 mins
- Eating time 2 - mins
- Repeat for second sandwich
Items Needed
- Small Sauce Pot
- Small Frying Pan
- Microwave
- Tinfoil
Materials Needed
- Onion Bun
- Cheddar Processed Cheese Slices
- 250 - 300g (.66 lb or 10 oz.) of Thinly Sliced roast beef from the Deli Counter (The more meat the better)
- Cream - 10% is fine
- Butter
(All ingredients for Arby's Sauce is in Step 1)
Step 1: The (copycat) Arby's Sauce
This is so easy and tastes similar enough to achieve the "copycat" title.
Ingredients
- 1 - cup Ketchup
- 1 TBS - Water
- 1 TSP - Brown sugar
- 1/4 TSP each - Garlic & Onion powder
- 1 TSP - Tobasco
- 1/2 TSP - Worcestershire Sauce
- 1/2 TSP Dijon Mustard
- 1/4 each - Salt and Paper
Step 1 - Combine all ingredients in a small pot, bring to boil, reduce heat to low and simmer 5 -8 minutes until thickens. Continue to next steps while the sauce simmers, make sure to stir occasionally.
Step 2: Cheesy Sauce and Sandwich Prep
With your Arby's sauce simmering away you can now focus on the cheese sauce for this sandwich. It is very simple and quick to make I used 2 cheddar processed slices of cheese per sandwich mixed with a bit of cream
Ingredients
- Butter
- Onion Bun
- Two cheese slices per sandwich
- Cream
Step 1 - Add some butter to a pan, once hot place the buns onto the pan and toast until golden brown.
Step 2 - In the same pan turn heat to low and add the slices of cheese, once slightly melted add a small amount of cream to the pan and stir until blended about 1 minute. (about 1-2 TBS of cream adjust as needed)
Step 3 - While the cheese is melting and combining with the cream grab a large and full of shaved roast beef about 250-300 grams and place it in a bowl. Microwave the beef in the bowl for 40 -50 seconds or until hot and you see juice in the bottom of the bowl.
***If you cook the cheese sauce too long it will thicken so be careful but you can always add a little more cream if this happens***
Step 3: Sandwich Construction and Resting Times
Sandwich construction is simple but crucial for proper flavor dispersion.
***Before starting grab a square piece of tinfoil and build the sandwich on top of it.***
Step 1 - Remove the not hot roast beef from the microwave and toss in its own juices in the bottom of the bowl.
Step 2 - Add how ever much of the Arby's sauce you want to the bottom of your toasted bun.
Step 3 - Add a HEAPING amount of shaved roast beef to the bun. Honestly add a ton, something about a hot sandwich you can eat way more compared to a cold deli sandwich.
Step 4 - Add the cheese to either the top bun of drizzle it all over the piled high beef. Any pieces on onions that have fallen off the bun can also go onto the sandwich for more flavor.
IMPORTANT
Step 5 - This step is crucial for flavor blending. Once you are done building the sandwich wrap in in the tinfoil and allow it to rest for 2 - 3 minutes tops. This is my way of re-creating the small wait time you would normally get in a restaurant while you are waiting for your order or paying or getting to your table.
What this does is that it helps blend all the flavours. The hot sliced beef with steam the bun slightly which will soften it up. The cheese will get a chance to melt and spread throughout the sandwich
Step 4: Unwrap and Enjoy
Unwrapping this sandwich is like unwrapping a gift on Christmas day. The way the tinfoil peels away from sticky cheese will start your mouth watering. The smell of all the blended flavours hitting your nose builds the anticipation of the glory that awaits your first bite.
Now sit back, and enjoy this homemade Beef N' Cheddar Sandwich like you are a King among men,, because you are, you are the meat King of the Flavor Kingdom, The Mayor of Cheesy Town or The Queen of Beef Monarchy.
I hope you try this recipe is so simple and a great copycat to try at home.
Enjoy
